Faculty

Faculty plays a larger role than you might recognize in ensuring students are able to obtain the textbooks and materials they need at reasonable prices. College Book and Supply relies on you, the instructors and faculty, to submit textbook lists for your courses in a timely fashion each semester. Timely lists allow us to source the correct textbooks and obtain an appropriate supply of used textbooks. We all know that more used textbooks are exactly what students want! On the other hand, a delayed textbook list can result in inventory shortages, students unable to obtain required texts and a complete lack of quality used textbooks.

Another factor in increasing textbook prices in the introduction of custom textbooks designed for a specific school. Textbooks will never be on the bestseller list, and the costs of developing, researching and designing a textbook are huge. Stores like us work to keep costs down by moving books from school to school as needed. So if UCF stops using a book, we may still be able to purchase that book and provide it to another school, allowing us to pay students more and to save students more in another area of the country. Custom books prevent that from happening. A custom book has no value anywhere other then to the school it was designed for. So if you stop using it, it becomes worthless. We all hope students will keep books as reference material as they begin their careers, but realistically this does not happen. Custom books are more likely to get less use and wind up in a landfill faster then their non-custom counterpart.

Please do your part and submit your textbook lists as early as possible each semester. Your students will thank you!
